Voluntary evacuations as Sierra foothills fire grows

FORESTHILL, Calif. The Placer County Sheriff's Department is asking residents isolated by a rapidly growing Sierra foothills fire to voluntarily evacuate tonight.
The blaze is within about a mile of an estimated 50 homes in the Michigan Bluff area east of Foresthill.
An evacuation center is set up at Foresthill Memorial Hall as the fire nearly triples in size to 19-hundred acres.
The fire is across a branch of the American River from the homes. But it's jumped the Middle Fork of the American River and Mosquito Ridge Road. Firefighters had hoped those boundaries would contain the fire that began Tuesday.
