The Ralston Fire east of Foresthill in the Tahoe National Forest spread to another 700 acres of wildland through Sunday, reaching a size of 4,464 acres since erupting last Tuesday.

Tahoe National Forest information officer Ann Westling said Sunday that the fire was 11 percent contained by mid-morning with crews continuing to construct fire lines on the east, west and south sides of the fire.

Priorities in the coming days are to continue to keep the fire south of the north fork of the middle fork of the American River and north of the Rubicon River, she said.

Structure protection measures were remaining in place for the mountain communities of Michigan Bluff in Placer County and Volcanoville in El Dorado County. Fire officials advised Michigan Bluff residents late Saturday that they were safe to return to their evacuated homes.
