As the Ralston Fire, burning since Sept. 5 in the Tahoe and El Dorado national forests, nears 80 percent containment Friday, some crews have been released from the blaze.
The fire consumed an additional 33 acres overnight and officials report that 1,423 firefighters continue the fight the fire, 48 less than the previous day.
"Complete containment is expected by (6 p.m.) Sept. 16," Carol Kennedy, information officer for the U.S. Forest Service said Friday. "It's looking better all the time."
Fire crew will continue to hold the line at the southwest and southeast front of the blaze throughout the day.
"Fire lines could be challenging with predicted high southerly winds," Kennedy said.
