Officers Warn Of Dangers Along Bike Trails

Sun 25 Mar 2007 09:04:57 AM PDT - Other News
Now that the weather is getting warmer more people are going to be out on the bike trail, soaking some sunshine. One local deputy was doing just that and he learned you can never let your guard down. It's a story we can all learn from.
"Right when I was still on the bicycle when I heard the gunshots,” says Deputy Todd with the Sacramento Sheriffs Department.

Todd was at the right place at the right time, or was he? Off-duty and heading home on this mountain bike on a trail along the American River he says he saw these two guys in the bushes and shortly thereafter he heard gunshots.

"I bailed off my bicycle and had my hand on my firearm. Two individuals came up and I detained them,” says Todd.

Fortunately the deputy too was armed and dangerous. He called for help on his cell phone and the cavalry arrived. Now that spring is here a lot more bike riders and families will be hitting the trails. It's a great way to soak up some sunshine but it's not a good time to let your guard down. Kelly and Ed Hight are always on guard.
