Man Fights For His Life Following Near Drowning
Sun 06 May 2007 12:11:55 AM PDT - Rafting
A rafting trip on the American River turned to tragedy Sunday when a 26-year-old who was rafting near the San Juan Rapids went under.
Authorities say the victim was in a large raft with 6 other people floating down the American River when they pulled off to the north shore near the El Manto access. The victim and one other friend reportedly went swimming, but the 26-year-old did not return to shore. Another raft eventually joined in the search and spotted the victim beneath the surface. They pulled him from the river and started CPR.
