Hiker's Body is Found in Gorge in Placer County

ALTA, Calif. -- The body of a 70-year-old hiker who had been missing since July 20 was found over the weekend in a remote and rugged gorge on the north fork of the American River, the Placer County Sheriff's Department reported Monday.

Two hikers came upon the remains of Harlan A. Schrader late Saturday in the area of Euchre Bar Trail, said Sgt. Dennis Walsh. The hikers used a cell phone to alert the Sheriff's Department, and recovery efforts were started early Sunday, Walsh said.
