A Labor Day weekend kayaking accident on the American River killed a Davis woman and devastated the Solano County high school where she taught art.

Joyce Tusan-Dalton, 57, died after her kayak reportedly flipped over and left her pinned underwater Sunday evening.

Her daughter Sarah Vogt said it was just her mother’s second try at kayaking.
