{"id":1780,"date":"2013-12-23T12:22:54","date_gmt":"2013-12-23T20:22:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.americanriverwildlife.com\/?p=1780"},"modified":"2013-12-23T12:22:54","modified_gmt":"2013-12-23T20:22:54","slug":"more-rangers-for-american-river-parkway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.americanriverwildlife.com\/?p=1780","title":{"rendered":"More Rangers For American River Parkway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sacramento County has four new job postings for rangers.\u00a0Chief Stan Lumsden says the four openings will make up half of the positions lost during the recent recession.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They lost several rangers which eroded the ability to provide public safety out in the park. Now we&#8217;re hoping with the addition of these four rangers, we can enhance that safety,&#8221; says Lumsden.<\/p>\n<p>Before the recession, the Sacramento Regional Parks system had 22 rangers.\u00a0Today it has just 13.<\/p>\n<p>Lumsden says the new rangers will increase safety and service along the parkway through a ranger stewardship program.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have rangers assigned to geographic areas. In other words, they more-or-less own their specific, respective pieces\u00a0 of the park.\u00a0I hope to enhance that program.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Sacramento Regional Parks system has 15,000 acres.\u00a0In addition to the American River Parkway, rangers patrol other areas including Sherman Island, Hogback Island, Georgiana\u00a0 Slough\u00a0and the\u00a0Rio Linda Bike trail.<\/p>\n<p>After background checks and academy training, new rangers could be on the parkway by June.<\/p>\n<p>From <a title=\"CapRadio.org\" href=\"http:\/\/www.capradio.org\/articles\/2013\/12\/23\/more-rangers-for-american-river-parkway\/\" target=\"_blank\">CapRadio.org<\/a> &gt;&gt;&gt;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sacramento County has four new job postings for rangers.\u00a0Chief Stan Lumsden says the four openings will make up half of the positions lost during the recent recession. &#8220;They lost several rangers which eroded the ability to provide public safety out in the park.
