{"id":1789,"date":"2013-12-24T06:52:40","date_gmt":"2013-12-24T14:52:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.americanriverwildlife.com\/?p=1789"},"modified":"2013-12-24T06:53:13","modified_gmt":"2013-12-24T14:53:13","slug":"folsom-imposes-water-use-restrictions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.americanriverwildlife.com\/?p=1789","title":{"rendered":"Folsom Imposes Water Use Restrictions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Sacramento suburb of Folsom is imposing a mandatory 20 percent cut in water use as the dry winter continues and as the city\u2019s main source of water \u2013 Folsom Lake \u2013 is 22 percent of capacity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 9px; padding-bottom: 6px;\">\u201cThis low water level, combined with critically dry weather conditions, necessitates immediate action to conserve water and protect our water supply,\u201d says Folsom City Manager Evert Palmer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 9px; padding-bottom: 6px;\">Folsom is the first Central Valley city to impose such restrictions during the current dry spell.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 9px; padding-bottom: 6px;\">Mandatory water use restrictions for businesses and residences limit landscape watering to two designated days per week; prohibit washing of parking lots, streets, driveways or sidewalks; and prohibit use of city water for construction purposes such as dust control, compaction or trench jetting without approval.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 9px; padding-bottom: 6px;\">\u201cDuring cold winter months, landscapes need very little water, making this an easy time of year to achieve significant water savings,\u201d says Folsom Environmental and Water Resources Director Marcus Yasutake. \u201cApproximately 60 percent of the water used by a typical Folsom family is directed to landscape. We\u2019re encouraging residents to turn off sprinklers to conserve water.
