{"id":2490,"date":"2014-09-03T08:05:38","date_gmt":"2014-09-03T15:05:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.americanriverwildlife.com\/?p=2490"},"modified":"2014-09-03T08:05:38","modified_gmt":"2014-09-03T15:05:38","slug":"folsom%e2%80%88lake-spillway-keeps-to-schedule-budget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.americanriverwildlife.com\/?p=2490","title":{"rendered":"Folsom\u2008Lake Spillway Keeps To Schedule, Budget"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\">The approximately $900 million auxiliary spillway for Folsom Dam, which will increase the dam\u2019s release capacity and reduce flood risk downstream, is \u201con time and on budget\u201d for its scheduled October 2017 completion.<br \/>\n<\/span><br style=\"color: #222222;\" \/><span style=\"color: #222222;\">\u00a0Also on schedule are the first phase of the project\u2019s control structure, scheduled to wrap up in the summer of 2015, and the second phase, set for completion in May 2017, said Katie Huff, a senior project manager with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.<\/span><br style=\"color: #222222;\" \/><span style=\"color: #222222;\">\u201cSite restoration will begin in 2016-17,\u201d she said.<\/span><br style=\"color: #222222;\" \/><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><br \/>\nThe auxiliary spillway\u2019s completion target is four years sooner than the original planned completion date of 2021 \u2014 and nearly $416 million below original cost projections.<\/span><br style=\"color: #222222;\" \/><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><br \/>\nConstruction on the new dam, the control structure, began in May 2012. Crews have been working nearly around the clock, six days a week, to meet the completion deadline of mid-2015.<\/span><br style=\"color: #222222;\" \/><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><br \/>\nThe third year of California drought hasn\u2019t had an impact on construction of the auxiliary spillway.
