{"id":3486,"date":"2017-07-03T07:40:03","date_gmt":"2017-07-03T14:40:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.americanriverwildlife.com\/?p=3486"},"modified":"2017-07-03T07:40:03","modified_gmt":"2017-07-03T14:40:03","slug":"locals-try-to-seek-safe-spots-on-the-american-river","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.americanriverwildlife.com\/?p=3486","title":{"rendered":"Locals try to seek safe spots on the American River"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As Fourth of July approaches, people are heading to the area&#8217;s waterways to stay cool, but some are avoiding the most dangerous spots on the American River.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, many people were cooling off at Lake Natoma \u2013 a calmer portion of the river near Folsom.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As you can see here, they have the swimming holes for the children and that&#8217;s where it&#8217;s all calm,&#8221; said Shane Nischke. &#8220;And you can see where everybody else is kayaking, it&#8217;s great out there &#8212; there&#8217;s nothing roaring through here.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Nischke family came all the way from Auburn to enjoy this spot, even though there are plenty of rivers where they\u2019re from.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just dangerous,\u201d he said, referring to those rivers. \u201cFor the last three years, this is the place I come with my children because it&#8217;s the safest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nischke is familiar with the dangers of the American River because he lost a close friend in a drowning incident on the river.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was out on a trail and then he fell in right in the rapids and the undertow took him and wrapped him up around a log,\u201d he said. \u201cHe couldn\u2019t get out, and therefore, his life was ended that day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>More at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc10.com\/news\/local\/folsom-orangevale\/locals-try-to-seek-safe-spots-on-the-american-river\/453744123\">ABC10.com<\/a> &gt;&gt;&gt;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As Fourth of July approaches, people are heading to the area&#8217;s waterways to stay cool, but some are avoiding the most dangerous spots on the American River.
