In Sacramento County, the surge of water swept away toxic waste from&nbsp;homeless camps and sent it all downstream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One section of Steelhead Creek, hit hard by toxic debris from homeless camps, grabbed the attention of geologist Roland Brady.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One day after the storm, Brady came out to see the aftermath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI wouldn\u2019t drink it,\u201d Brady said. \u201cI would never drink it. What you\u2019ll see are places that look like a solid waste disposal site, with a creek flowing through it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The storm is now sending&nbsp;all that waste through the delta and out to sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd that\u2019s what really frustrates me, is that there\u2019s very good control over just about everything else, but here it just happens in an enormous volume, every time it rains,\u201d Brady said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brady is a volunteer steward of a mile long section of Steelhead Creek, where homeless camps have created massive piles of waste and debris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Photos show the mess along his section of the creek in December, ahead of the largest ever clean up in the creek\u2019s history. Crews removed 100,000 pounds of homeless camp debris<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat we didn\u2019t get, is in the water,\u201d Brady said. \u201cWhat we did get, is not in the water.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sacramento County approved $5 million in increased funds to clean up areas along the American River Parkway last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brady says on Steelhead Creek, east of the El Camino bridge, no agency is claiming responsibility for cleaning as of now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More at <a href=\"https:\/\/sacramento.cbslocal.com\/2019\/01\/17\/storm-toxic-discharge-waterways\/\">CBSLocal.com<\/a> >>><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wednesday\u2019s massive storm had rivers rising all around our area.
