The Effie Yeaw Nature Center\u00a0was in rough shape last summer when Sacramento\u00a0County relinquished control of it because of budget problems.<\/p>\n
The nature center was left on its own to find funding, but a non-profit group, the American River Natural History Association, stepped up to the plate.<\/p>\n
Through a grassroots fundraising effort, the association was able to raise the money needed to help rescue the center and\u00a0rehire\u00a0about 60 percent of the staff that was laid off last year.\u00a0 Part of that effort included designing and selling guide books for the American River Parkway.<\/p>\n
