{"id":501,"date":"2011-10-28T15:26:56","date_gmt":"2011-10-28T15:26:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.americanriverwildlife.com\/?p=501"},"modified":"2011-10-28T15:26:56","modified_gmt":"2011-10-28T15:26:56","slug":"game-warden-holds-out-hope-for-troublesome-bear-family","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.americanriverwildlife.com\/?p=501","title":{"rendered":"Game warden holds out hope for troublesome bear family"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After calls poured into the Placer County Sheriff\u2019s Office as a family of wayward bears wandered into Roseville over the weekend, Fish and Game officials now hope they\u2019ll stay out of trouble.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not sure of the outcome,\u201d Placer Game Warden Brian Moore told the Fish and Game Commission Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>Moore said right now a trap has been set for the bears if they return to Granite Bay. If caught there, they would be put down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was requested by the homeowner,\u201d Moore said. \u201cA landowner that has property damage due to wildlife can request the depredation (kill) permit and we can\u2019t refuse them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The four bears were last spotted Wednesday near Horseshoe Bar Road and Auburn Folsom Road.<\/p>\n<p>Moore said the bears have been known to frequent the unsecured garbage of a restaurant near the I-80 and Foresthill exit in Auburn and for some unknown reason started the trek to Roseville.<\/p>\n<p>The unusual location for bears spurred about 40 calls into the Sheriff\u2019s Office reporting the black bear sow and her triplet cubs as they made it down to Granite Bay through Loomis and back again.<\/p>\n<p>Rocklin resident Greg Janda\u2019s wife Julie discovered the suburban spectacle Saturday morning &#8211; bears going house to house off Scarborough Drive in Roseville.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey followed the greenbelt into our neighborhoods,\u201d Janda said.<\/p>\n<p>He told the commission he supported the bears and didn\u2019t want them killed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are not interested in you, they are looking for food,\u201d Janda said. \u201cDon\u2019t invite them by having food around for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moore believes bear-proof trash cans are a great deterrent but doesn\u2019t believe Roseville residents need to go out and get one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, this is isolated,\u201d Moore said. \u201cI think over the weekend the bears were scared pretty bad. People were seeing them and they were scattering.
