{"id":945,"date":"2012-10-02T19:54:36","date_gmt":"2012-10-03T02:54:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.americanriverwildlife.com\/?p=945"},"modified":"2012-10-02T19:54:36","modified_gmt":"2012-10-03T02:54:36","slug":"army-corps-of-engineers-awards-levee-contracts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.americanriverwildlife.com\/?p=945","title":{"rendered":"Army Corps of Engineers awards levee contracts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District has awarded five levee construction contracts totaling $16.2 million to small businesses, the Corps announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The projects aim to reduce flood risk along the American River in Sacramento.<\/p>\n<p>The work will be done next year as part of a joint effort between the Corps, Central Valley Flood Protection Board and Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency. The projects will strengthen certain levee sites by installing water seepage barriers, widen and raise levee heights and improve erosion protection along the river.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese levee projects demonstrate the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer\u2019s continued efforts in reducing Sacramento\u2019s overall flood risk,\u201d Col.
