American River bike trail near trestle fire site reopens

07/27/2007 - Other News
Four months after a massive railroad trestle fire closed a stretch of the American River Parkway, the trail reopened Thursday.

Repairing the half mile section of bike trail near the bridge at Cal Expo has taken months. Bicycle commuters and pedestrians have been forced to take a detour since the March 15 fire.

"It has been quite a while that trail users have been inconvenienced. We're just glad that it's finally completed," said Dave Lydick, deputy director of the county parks department.

He acknowledged that the fix took a bit longer than some folks hoped.

While rules were waved to speed the track reconstruction, fire cleanup and trail repaving required permits and authorization from several state agencies, Lydick said. [Sacramento Bee]

The politicians and wealthy landowners who would profit from a dam project will never give up. We will need to remain vigilant to ensure that this porkbarrel project is never built.
